A Magazine of Savvy Advice for the Sysadmin
July 23, 2001

Welcome! The Sysadmin Savant magazine is intended to fill a missing link in sysadmin literature. The articles and features you will find in its pages will follow some basic guidelines, or principles:

Accuracy - Each feature will be reviewed by the members of our Technical Board to ensure technical soundness and sanity.

Practicality - You will not find product reviews in the Sysadmin Savant, rather you will see detailed how-to articles aimed at making your administration experience richer and easier.

Elegance - Each article, example, and code snippet shall be written with enterprise scalability as well workgroup usability in mind.

Feedback - The magazine will be reader-driven, that is the writers will be people like you, with talent and experience in a particular area worth sharing.

While most of the articles will be geared toward Windows and related servers (Exchange, SQL, etc.), many will focus on co-existing with other systems: UNIX systems, LANs/WANs, etc. So expect valuable info for sysadmins of all walks. You are probably wondering how this is different from finding an answer on usenet, or perusing the many white papers available on a given subject. While usenet is extrememly useful, you may find a torrent of possibly helpful answers, or rather pieces of answers there. In this magazine you will find examples and scenarios that are fully functional, and described in such a way that you will understand it enough to fit it to your situation. As for white papers, they are often behind the curve in providing accurate and up-to-date information, and are not easily fitted to the real world.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of the premier issue, or if you'd like to contribute, please don't hesitate to contact me. More infomration will be posted here in the coming weeks.

Thanks,

James Nelson...
